TASMANIAN INDUSTRIAL COMMISSION

Industrial Relations Act 1984
s.23 application for award or variation of award

Police Association of Tasmania
(T10882 of 2003)

POLICE AWARD

COMMISSIONER T J ABEY

HOBART, 5 June 2003

Award variation - expense related allowances - application granted - operative date ffpp 5 June 2003

REASONS FOR DECISION

[1] On 30 May 2003 an application was lodged by the Police Association of Tasmania (PAT), pursuant to Section 23 of the Industrial Relations Act 1984, to vary the Police Award.

[2] When this matter came on for hearing on 5 June 2003, Ms A Bradford appeared for the PAT. Ms J Henley appeared for the Commissioner of Police.

[3] This application seeks to vary expense related allowances.

[4] Ms Bradford explained that the formula for adjustment was based on the change in the CPI, Weighted Average of Eight Capital Cities, between the March quarter 2003 and the March quarter in the previous year. This amounts to an increase of 3.44 per cent.

[5] Ms Henley indicated consent to the application.

[6] I am satisfied that the application is consistent with both the Wage Fixing Principles and the public interest requirements of the Act.

[7] The application is granted operative from the beginning of the first full pay period to commence on or after 5 June 2003.

[8] The Order reflecting this variation is attached.
