COMMISSIONER T J ABEY

HOBART, 13 September 2004

Industrial agreement - application approved - operative date ffpp 1 July 2004 - 3 years - forwarded to Registrar for registration

REASONS FOR DECISION

[1] On 18 August 2004, the National Union of Workers (Central Branch) and GlaxoSmithKline Australia lodged with the Registrar, pursuant to Section 55(2) of the Industrial Relations Act 1984, the GlaxoSmithKline Australia (Latrobe Site) Industrial Agreement.

[2] When this matter came on for hearing on 8 September 2004, Mr B Bolitho appeared for the Union. Mrs V Middleton, of the Tasmanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Limited, with Mr I Grenfell, appeared for the Company.

[3] Mr Bolitho explained that this agreement provided for wage increases of 4% per annum to take effect on 1 July each year.

[4] Mrs Middleton advised that the Company consented to the agreement.

[5] I am satisfied that the agreement is consistent with both the Wage Fixing Principles and the public interest requirements of the Act.

[6] Pursuant to s.55(4) of the Act the agreement is approved operative from the first full pay period to commence on or after 1 July 2004 and shall remain in force until 30 June 2007.

[7] The file will now be referred to the Registrar for registration in accordance with the requirements of Section 56(1) of the Act.
