REASONS FOR DECISION

[1] On 25 October 2004, an application was lodged by the Printing Industries Association of Australia, Tasmanian Region (PIA), pursuant to Section 23 of the Industrial Relations Act 1984, to vary the Printers Award.

[2] When this matter came on for hearing at the Commonwealth Law Courts, 39-41 Davey Street, Hobart at 11.30am on 16 November 2004, Mr J Hargrave appeared for the PIA. Mr M Watson appeared for Tasmanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Limited. Mr D Hanisch appeared for Automotive, Food, Metals, Engineering, Printing and Kindred Industries Union.

[3] Mr Hargrave explained that the purpose of the application was to update the names of the relevant federal awards from which the wage rates and conditions of employment are derived in relation to "Employees other than clerical employees".

[4] Mr Watson and Mr Hanisch consented to the application.

[5] I am satisfied that the application is consistent with both the Wage Fixing Principles and the public interest requirements of the Act.

[6] The application is granted operative from 16 November 2004.

[7] An Order reflecting this decision is attached.
