Industrial agreement - application approved - operative date ffpp 4/11/05 - 31/8/08 - forwarded to Registrar for registration
REASONS FOR DECISION
[1] On 4 November 2005, the Health Services Union of Australia, Tasmania No. 1 Branch and MIA Tasmania Pty Ltd lodged with the Registrar, pursuant to Section 55(2) of the Industrial Relations Act 1984, the MIA Tasmania Pty Ltd Industrial Agreement 2005.
[2] When this matter came on for hearing on 15 November 2005, Mr C Stringer appeared for the Health Services Union of Australia, Tasmania No. 1 Branch. Mr M Watson, of the Tasmanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Limited, appeared for MIA Tasmania Pty Ltd.
[3] Mr Watson explained that this was the third collective agreement negotiated at the workplace. The agreement had been negotiated through a committee consisting of employee representatives and the union.
[4] The agreement provided for a 6% salary increase on signing, with further increases of 4% and 2% at twelve monthly intervals.
[5] A new classification structure, with certain offsets, had been negotiated for Sonographers.
[6] Mr Stringer supported the submissions of Mr Watson.
[7] I am satisfied that the agreement is consistent with both the Wage Fixing Principles and the public interest requirements of the Act.
[8] Pursuant to s55[4] of the Act, the agreement is approved, operative from the beginning of the first pay period to commence on or after 4 November 2005 and shall remain in force until 31 August 2008.
[9] The file will now be referred to the Registrar for registration in accordance with the requirements of Section 56(1) of the Act.
