REASONS FOR DECISION

[1] On 8 September 2006, an application was lodged by the Communications, Electrical, Electronic, Energy, Information, Postal, Plumbing and Allied Services Union of Australia, pursuant to s.23 of the Industrial Relations Act 1984, to vary the Electrical Engineers Award.

[2] The application sought to vary expenses related allowances.

[3] A hearing commenced at the Commonwealth Law Courts, 39-41 Davey Street, Hobart on Tuesday, 3 October 2006 at 10.30 am.

[4] At the hearing Mr K Harkins appeared for the Communications, Electrical, Electronic, Energy, Information, Postal, Plumbing and Allied Services Union of Australia; and Ms S Haas, for the Tasmanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Limited.

[5] The parties agreed that, expense related allowances in the Electrical Engineers Award will be increased in accordance with the consent draft order (as amended) with an operative date of the first full pay period to commence on or after 3 October 2006. I have decided to grant the agreed increases. The variations are consistent with the Wage Fixing Principles and the public interest requirements of the Act.

[6] The Order giving effect to this Decision is attached.
