TASMANIAN STATE SERVICE NATIONAL TRAINING WAGE AWARD

REASONS FOR DECISION

[1] This application (as amended) was lodged, pursuant to s 23 of the Industrial Relations Act 1984, by the Minister administering the State Service Act 2000, for the making of an award to be known as Tasmanian State Service National Training Wage Award (the award).

[2] The award:

· Is to apply to persons employed under the provisions of the State Service Act 2000, who occupy a position in an approved traineeship scheme.

· Is not to apply to employees who were employed prior to the date of approval of a traineeship scheme relevant to the employer, except where agreed between the parties to a traineeship scheme.

· does not apply to apprenticeships.

[3] The following employee organisation have an interest in the award pursuant to s.63(10) of the Act:

· The Australian Workers' Union, Tasmania Branch;

· The Community and Public Sector Union (State Public Services Federation Tasmania) Inc.;

· The Health Services Union of Australia, Tasmania No. 1 Branch.

[4] The following employer organisation has an interest in the award pursuant to s.62(4) of the Act:

· The Minister administering the State Service Act 2000.

[5] The award has been negotiated by the parties and is presented to the Commission as the amended draft Order by consent.

[6] I have perused the provisions found in the award and am satisfied that it is in accord with the Wage Fixing Principles and the public interest requirements of the Act.

[7] The award will take effect from the first full pay period to commence on or after 24 October 2006.
