REASONS FOR DECISION

[1] On 27 February 2009, an application was lodged by the Minister administering the State Service Act 2000, pursuant to Section 23 of the Industrial Relations Act 1984, to vary the AWU (Tasmanian State Sector) Award.

[2] When this matter came on for hearing on 10 March 2009, Mr K Grey appeared for the Minister administering the State Service Act 2000 and Mr I Wakefield appeared for The Australian Workers' Union, Tasmania Branch.

[3] Mr Grey explained that the purpose of this application was to facilitate the 1.5% salary increase consistent with the salary adjustment agreement in the Tasmanian State Service Award. He advised that there would be ongoing discussions concerning a revised classification structure.

[4] Mr Wakefield supported the application.

[5] I am satisfied that the application is consistent with both the Wage Fixing Principles and the public interest requirements of the Act.

[6] The application is granted operative from the beginning of the first pay period to commence on or after 5 March 2009.
