DEPUTY PRESIDENT TIM ABEY
HOBART, 16 May 2012

Award variation – salaries and related matters –consent application – award varied ffpp on or after 1 December 2011

REASONS FOR DECISION

[1] On 4 May 2012, an application was lodged by the Minister administering the State Service Act 2000, pursuant to s.23 of the Industrial Relations Act 1984, to vary the Australian Workers Union (Tasmanian State Sector) Award.

[2] A hearing was convened in Hobart on 15 May 2012.  At the hearing Mr K Grey appeared for the Minister administering the State Service Act 2000.  Mr K Midson appeared for the Australian Workers Union, Tasmanian Branch.

[3] Mr Grey advised that the application arose out of the broader state service agreement negotiations endorsed by the Commission in T13893 of 2012.  The amendments provide for a salary increase of $1000 or 2%, whichever is the greater, effective from the first pay period to commence on or after 1 December 2011, with a similar increase to apply from 1 December 2012.

[4] Mr Midson supported the application.

[5] I am satisfied that the application is consistent with the public interest requirements of the Act.

[6] The application is granted operative from the beginning of the first pay period to commence on or after 1 December 2011.

[7] An order reflecting this decision follows.
