CORRECTIONAL OFFICERS AGREEMENT 2012

DEPUTY PRESIDENT TIM ABEY
HOBART, 6 July 2012

Industrial agreement – application approved – operative date from date of registration until 30 June 2013 – forwarded to Registrar for registration

DECISION

[1] On 2 July 2012, the Minister administering the State Service Act 2000 (MASSA) and the Community and Public Sector (SPSFT) Inc. (CPSU), lodged with the Registrar, pursuant to Section 55(2) of the Industrial Relations Act 1984, the Correctional Officers Agreement 2012.

[2] At the hearing on 5 July 2012 in Hobart, Mr P Baker appeared for MASSA and Mr M Johnston appeared for the CPSU.  Mr P Tullgren for United Voice, Tasmanian Branch advised the Commission that the union was in support of the application.

[3] This agreement, which replaces the Correctional Officers Interim Agreement 2010 (T13767 of 2010), makes provision for a 2% salary increase from 5 December 2011, with a further 2% adjustment from 6 December 2012.  There is also provision for a productivity based salary increase of up to 0.5%.

[4] The agreement also makes special provision for appointment to Correctional Supervisor, such arrangements to continue for the life of the agreement.

[5] I am satisfied that the agreement is consistent with the public interest requirements of the Act, and does not disadvantage the employees concerned.

[6] Pursuant to s55(4) the agreement is approved operative from the date of registration and shall remain in force until 30 June 2013.

[7] The file will now be referred to the Registrar for registration in accordance with the requirements of Section 56(1) of the Act.
