DECISION
[1] On 16 August 2012, an application was lodged by the Minister administering the State Service Act 2000, (MASSA), pursuant to s.23 of the Industrial Relations Act 1984, to vary the Polytechnic and Skills Institute Teaching Staff Award with respect to meal and living away from home allowances.
[2] At the hearing on 17 August 2012, Mr P Mazengarb appeared for MASSA.
[3] Mr Mazengarb explained that this application sought to replace out-dated clauses relating to expense related allowances and replace with contemporary provisions which are consistent with award standards applicable in the wider State Service.
[4] Mr Mazengarb submitted that this application was part of a package arrangement which he understood the Australian Education Union consented to.
[5] I am satisfied that the application is consistent with the public interest requirements of the Act.
[6] The application is granted and the award is varied operative from the beginning of the first pay period to commence on or after 17 August 2012.
[7] The order reflecting this decision follows.
