REASONS FOR DECISION

[1]         On 3 April 2008 the above applications were lodged by the Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Union, Tasmanian Branch, pursuant to Section 23 of the Industrial Relations Act 1984, to vary the Building Trades Award, Building and Construction Industry Award, Shipbuilders Award, Monumental Masons Award and Mobile Crane Hire Award.

[2]         Mr T Benson appeared for the Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Union, Tasmanian Branch and submitted that the supported wage be increased from $61 to $66 per week in accord with the decision of the Australian Fair Pay Commission. He requested that the supported wage clause be varied in each of the above awards except for the Mobile Crane Hire Award where a new supported wage clause was to be inserted.

[3]         Mr P Mazengarb appeared on behalf of the Tasmanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (TCCI). He submitted that the TCCI consents to the applications, that the applications are consistent with the Wage Fixing Principles and the public interest requirements of the Act.

[4]         The Commission approved the five applications and the variations will take effect from the first full pay period on or after 14 April 2008. Orders will be issued giving effect to this decision.
