IN THE TASMANIAN INDUSTRIAL COMMISSION Industrial Relations Act 1984
On 7 May 1987 the Police Association of Tasmania lodged with the Commission an application to vary kilometreage allowances prescribed in the Police Award. The application sought to adjust the rates in accordance with the established formula cxurrently applicable to the "parent" provision set out in the General Conditions of Service Award.1 In this regard Mr. McDermott relied upon Commissioner Gozzi's decision of 21 May 1987,2 in which he approved variation of kilometreage rates in the General Conditions of Service Award to take account of C.P.I. movement to 31 March 1987. He submitted that the rates sought by the Association were in conformity with those now prescribed for the State Service generally. Inspector Ames, representing the Commissioner of Police, indicated that as the application was in line with the guidelines normally applied in determining kilometreage allowances in the Police Award, the Commissioner did not oppose the application. Both Mr. McDermott and Inspector Ames requested an operative date in accordance with that applicable to the General Conditions of Service Award variation. Having regard for the history of the kilometreage allowance provision in this award, and as the rates claimed are those which have already been approved in the General Conditions of Service Award, the application is granted. The operative date of the order will be the beginning of the first full pay period commencing on or after 30 April 1987.
