REASONS FOR DECISION

[1] On 13 January 2005, an application was lodged by Health Services Union of Australia, Tasmania No. 1 Branch (HSUA), pursuant to Section 23 of the Industrial Relations Act 1984, to vary the Hospitals Award.

[2] When this matter came on for hearing on 14 January 2005, Mr T Jacobson, with Ms S Doherty, appeared for the HSUA. Mr M Watson appeared for the Tasmanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Limited.

[3] This application seeks to vary the allowances prescribed in Clause 32 - Meals consistent with recent changes to the General Conditions of Employment Award.1

[4] Both the TCCI and the ANF consented to the application.

[5] I am satisfied that the application is consistent with both the Wage Fixing Principles and the public interest requirements of the Act.

[6] The application is granted operative from the beginning of the first pay period to commence on or after 14 January 2005.

[7] An order reflecting this decision is attached.
